ドジャースからメッツに移籍した野茂英雄(29)が、遠征先の米マサチューセッツ州ボストンでチームに合流し、練習に参加した。 新しいユニホームをまとった野茂は、近鉄時代のチームメートで、親友でもある吉井理人(33)とときおり言葉を交すなど、リラックスした表情を見せていた。 会見では「プレーオフを狙えるチームに入りたかった。メッツは自分にとってすべてがいい環境にあり、ピアザ、吉井さん、ウォレス・コーチら僕を理解してくれる人がいるので良かった」と話した。 ヴァレンタイン監督も「ドジャース時代のような活躍を期待しているよ」と笑顔で野茂を迎えていた。野茂の背番号はドジャース時代と同じ「１６」となる。 産経新聞 1998.06.06

METS GET NOMO Mlicki, McMichael to Dodgers Late Thursday night, the New York Mets traded pitchers Dave Mlicki and Greg McMichael to the Los Angeles Dodgers for pitcher Hideo Nomo. Nomo, 29, the NL Rookie of the Year in 1995, was 2-7 with a 5.05 ERA before the Dodgers cut him loose after the Japanese pitcher asked for a trade. "My hope and expectation is that it takes us up to a better level. We're getting a proven veteran starter. We feel comfortable that he's going to be able to step in and take a regular turn," said Mets GM Steve Phillips.
